William Simon Bio
Documentary films based on Bill's scripts have won many awards including eight CINE Golden Eagles, an Emmy nomination, and recognition from the Venice, Berlin and Belgrade film festivals. His credits include major television documentaries including Block by Block, narrated by James Earl Jones; and From Information to Wisdom, on the PBS "Smithsonian World" series. He is the writer and producer of the Emmy-nominated Setting Sail, a tallship PBS documentary with Walter Cronkite that features the San Diego museum ship Star of India. (Bill also appears in that film, as a crew-member of the ship.)
Bill is a member of the Writers Guild of America, a jury chairman and Advisory Council member of the CINE film festival, and a board member of the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. He holds a commercial pilot's license for airplanes and helicopters, and is an avid tennis player and sailor. At Cornell University, he became a member of Tau Beta Pi and Eta Kappa Nu honorary societies.
